Switzerland is an attractive place to live and work – but relocating from abroad comes with some particularities. From customs declaration of household goods to registration with the municipality and the residence permit: we've summarised the key steps and, on request, handle your complete move to Switzerland.
Moving to Switzerland – the key steps
Clarify the residence permit
EU/EFTA citizens need a residence permit (B/L), third-country nationals additional approvals. Clarify this before moving.
Household goods & customs
Used household goods can generally be imported duty-free. You need form 18.44 and an inventory list.
Organise the move
Hire an experienced company for international transport – we handle pickup, transport and delivery.
Register with the municipality
Within 14 days of arrival, you must register with your municipality of residence.
Take out health insurance
In Switzerland, health insurance is mandatory – take it out within 3 months.
Customs & household goods – what you need to know
Anyone relocating their residence to Switzerland can generally import their used household goods duty-free. Condition: the items were used for at least six months and will continue to be used. Customs form 18.44 and a detailed inventory list are required. New items, vehicles and certain goods are subject to special rules.
